Six hours. Two teams. One epic battle for bragging rights.
Forget the traditional hens and bucks party celebrations. This crew decided to do things a little differently! Instead of separate parties, the bride and groom brought their teams together for an epic Hens vs Bucks Canberra Amazing Race. And when we say epic, we mean SIX HOURS of challenges, cryptic clues, unexpected twists and some seriously competitive behaviour!
With both teams determined to claim victory, we designed a Custom Amazing Race that would put their teamwork, problem-solving skills and competitive spirits to the ultimate test. There were go-karts, boats, puzzles and enough twists to keep everyone guessing right until the final moments. Plus, with some serious escape room enthusiasts in the group, we knew ordinary clues simply weren’t going to cut it!
From Go-Karts to GoBoats: This Was No Ordinary Hens and Bucks Party!
The adventure kicked off in Canberra, with Team Bride and Team Groom going head-to-head in a race across the city. Armed with their clues and a healthy dose of determination, both teams set off to tackle their first challenges.
First up, it was time to put the pedal to the metal with a go-karting challenge. Because nothing says friendly wedding celebrations quite like trying to beat your future spouse around a racetrack! Next, the teams tackled our Time Zone Challenge, testing their luck, strategy and ability to work together under pressure. With points up for grabs, every decision mattered.
However, one of the biggest adventures took place on Lake Burley Griffin. The teams jumped aboard GoBoats and set off on a mission to locate one of our sneaky hosts, who was hiding somewhere around the lake. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, finding a person somewhere around a rather large lake is a little trickier than it sounds!
With the clock ticking and valuable points on the line, the teams had to combine their navigation skills with a little detective work. After all, nobody wanted to be the team cruising around Canberra while their opponents raced ahead!
A Lunch Break With a Twist!
After a busy morning of challenges, it was time for a well-earned lunch break. The teams could finally relax, refuel and perhaps engage in a little friendly trash talk. But we weren’t about to make the afternoon too easy!
Instead of simply telling everyone where to restart, we sent the teams a QR code. Scanning it revealed their next puzzle, which they needed to solve to discover the afternoon’s starting location. That’s right, even getting back into the race was a challenge!
Once they cracked the clue, the competition was back on. With plenty of points still available, neither team could afford to get comfortable. And just when one team thought they had the upper hand, another twist would shake things up!
Escape Room Enthusiasts? Challenge Accepted!
One of our favourite things about creating a Custom Amazing Race is being able to build the experience around the people taking part. And this particular group absolutely LOVED escape rooms. So naturally, we decided to make them work for their victory!
Throughout the six-hour adventure, we included cryptic clues, clever puzzles and challenges that required some serious brainpower. This wasn’t simply a race to see who could get from A to B the fastest. Teams had to think outside the box, piece together information and work together to unlock their next steps.
Some challenges tested their speed, while others demanded patience and problem-solving skills. Occasionally, the best strategy was to stop, think and resist the urge to overcomplicate everything! Meanwhile, the competition remained fierce throughout the day. The lead changed hands several times, and neither team could confidently claim victory. Which, of course, made things even more entertaining!
The Final Puzzle: Crack the Code or Lose the Glory!
After six hours of racing around Canberra, it all came down to one final challenge. Waiting at the finish line was a locked suitcase containing the ultimate prize: the winning team’s trophies!
But there was a catch. Before anyone could get their hands on the silverware, they needed to solve one final escape-room-inspired puzzle and crack the combination code. No code, no trophies, no glory!
After a full day of navigating, racing, boating and puzzling, the teams had one last opportunity to prove their problem-solving skills. And after an incredibly close competition, TEAM BRIDE TOOK THE VICTORY! 🏆
The bride and her crew claimed the trophies, the glory and, most importantly, the bragging rights heading into married life. As for Team Groom? Well, there’s always the honeymoon to plan a comeback!
